Homework: AB13/1-3 

Summary: Today we focused on reviewing past tense verbs (did, was/were, drank, said, caught, etc) and recognizing adjectives (beautiful, ugly, interesting, funny, etc) 

Discussion: Students chose an adjective and asked another student to create a sentence using the adjective. For example, “Whales are interesting because they are mammals, and can hold their breath for a long time.”

Video: we watched a video on how nature documentaries are made, and the different types of cameras filmmakers use (drone camera, underwater camera, etc)

Creative Writing: Students pretended to write for a TV program (the news, sports, a documentary, etc). Then they presented their program in front of the class. This was great practice for using the unit vocabulary in context and practicing past tense verbs.  

Homework: AB11/1-3

Summary: Today we reviewed telling time, and practiced our new vocabulary (comedy, documentary, cartoon, news, weather, etc). 

Discussion: We asked each other about our favorite TV shows and why we like them. 

SH vs CH: We practiced listening for the difference in the sounds between ch and sh words like choose and shoes, chair and share, and cheap and sheep. 

Plink-Oh!: This was a great way to practice telling time (half past eight, ten to five, etc)

Homework: AB10/1-3

Summary: Today we discussed different television programs, and shared what we like to watch on television. We also focused on telling time in English.

Game: What time is it? For this game the students need to speed write what time I tell them. We practiced phrases, “It’s ten to six,” and more! 

LEAP Talent: Some of the boys in class told us they won first place in the talent show by performing We Will Rock You by Queen. They did a great job showing us their routine!

HW: AB7/1

Summary: Today we finished our first unit in the book! We focused on discussing school subjects.  We asked each other about which are our favourite and least favourite school subjects and why. This was great practice for comparing subjects and expressing what we like and dislike in superlatives. 

Song: We sang a song about school subjects and routines. The students really got into singing karaoke! 

Diggory Bones: This year we have a new comic at the end of each unit about an archaeologist named Diggory Bones.

HW: AB17/1 – make sure you register your books! Please email Deanna or me if you have difficulty accessing the audio files. 

Summary: Today we started our new books and learned more about the characters Stella, Lenny and Meera. We also talked about blogs and school subjects.  This was a fun way to discuss our classes in English and get to know each other better. We also practiced asking and answering present simple questions: Do you live near school? What sports do you like?

Game: Plink-Oh! Students were given hints in English and had to determine the class: What class do you use paint, pencils, and colours? What class do you learn about numbers, sums, and shapes? This was a great opportunity to review our new vocabulary.

• The homework is a listening activity, so please email Deanna or me if you have any difficulty locating the audio files for the Cambridge activity books. 

Summary: Today we talked about the Class Rules and signed our group poster: in LEAP we Speak English, Listen to each other, Raise your hand to speak, will Be prepared (bring books, pencil case, and homework), and will Be respectful to each other. 

We also asked each other what activities we did and where we travelled this summer.  It was a good opportunity to share our experiences and practice past tense verbs.  

Time capsule: Students wrote about their talents, goals they have for this year, and things they are looking forward to during this year. We sealed the capsules and will open them in June 2027.
