Homework: AB74/1-4

Summary: We reviewed units 6, 7 & 8 to prepare for our final test for next week. 

Present participle: students focused on the present participle form of the verbs. Have you… gone, been, seen, hidden, found, had, worked, played, etc  

Animals: We discussed different animals, their body parts (tail, wing, scales, fur, feathers, beak, etc) and words related to animals (species, protect, habitat, endangered, extinct, etc)

Test: Next week we will have our final test. Those missing next week will complete the test the following week.

Homework: AB73/3-5

Summary: We continued unit 8 this week. We discussed different sports and which seasons you can practice them. We focused on the present perfect tense.

Creating Questions: students created their own present perfect questions. For example, “Have you ever ridden a camel? Have you ever been to the US? Have you ever stepped on a bee? Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.”

Test: Next week we will review for our final test. It will be scheduled for May 26 on units 7 & 8.

Homework: AB72/1-3

Summary: We started unit 8 this week. We discussed different sports and the present perfect tense.

Spinning wheel: we spun a wheel to ask each other present perfect tense questions. For example, “Have you ever been to France? Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.”

Cambridge exam: Students practiced some test taking skills to prepare them for the Cambridge Flyers exam. We focused on listening and speaking.

Homework: AB70/2-4

Project: Students will research 1 endangered animal and how we can help it,  and write a report on it. Photos or drawings are encouraged. Next week they will present their report. 

Summary: We completed unit 7 this week. We discussed how we can help endangered animals.

Writing skills: Students learned how to use when to give facts. Example: When hedgehogs come out for food, they can walk more than 3 kilometres! 

Cambridge exam: Students practiced some test taking skills to prepare them for the Cambridge Flyers exam. We focused on reading and writing.

Homework: AB64/1&2

Sumamry: We continued working on unit 7. Today we focused on endangered animals, and how we can help them. 

Giving Advice: Students continued practicing giving and asking for advice (“What should I do? You should/shouldn’t…”). 

Game: Taboo – This was a great way for the students to practice describing animals.

Homework: AB64/1&2

Sumamry: Today we started unit 7. We focused on nature problems (littering, air pollution, deforestation, etc).

Giving Advice: Students practiced giving and asking for advice (“What should I do? You should/shouldn’t…”). This will be our grammar focus for this unit. 

Plink-oh!: This was a great way for the students to practice giving advice for various problems.

Homework: AB62/1&2

Summary: today we reviewed units 5&6 

Taboo game: Students had to give clues for their teammate to guess a food word. This was a great opportunity to practice describing items. 

Relay Race: We reviewed past tense, present tense, and present continuous tense. This was a fun and fast way to practice verb tenses.

Homework: AB63/4&5

Extra credit: Students can bring in a mystery item to smell, touch, taste, feel, or hear. 

Summary: We continued our unit focused on the senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste). We discussed our favorite and least favorite things to hear and why. 

How can we hear?: Students watched a video on how sound travels. We learned how sound waves travel through vibrations, and what makes sounds higher or lower. We also learned that sound cannot travel through space because there’s no air!

Homework: AB54/1-2 & AB55/2-3

Extra credit: Students can bring in a recipe in English to share with the class. Be sure it includes the ingredients, the steps for how to make it, and a photo or drawing of the meal. See PB57/3 for an example. This is an optional assignment for fun. 

Summary: We continued our unit focused on the senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste).

Pizza: Students designed their own pizza with their favourite ingredients. This was a fun way to practice our new vocabulary (dough, thick crust and thin crust, oven, herbs like basil, thyme, and rosemary, etc)

Rorschach test: Each student created a rorschach ink blot test, and we all discussed what it looked like. Look at our rorschach tests. What do they look like to you?

Homework: No homework

Summary: We reviewed units 3, 4, & 5 to prepare for our test today. We focused on giving directions, places in a city, describing materials, and distinguishing when to use the different forms of be (am, is, are, was, were).

Game: Plink-Oh! This was a great game to review places in a city (museum, theatre, stadium, police station, etc).

Test: Students completed a test today on units 3, 4, & 5. They will be sent home next week.
