Homework: AB47/1-3

Summary: Today we continued unit 5. This unit focuses on materials and what things are made of (These books are made of paper, The table is made of wood, etc). 

Creative Writing: Students created a new material, and told the class 1-3 special things about it. This was a great opportunity to use our creative thinking skills in English! 

Song: Students sang a song about different materials. This was also a good activity for listening comprehension.

Next week: We will review units 3, 4 & 5. The next test is scheduled for Thursday, February 26th.

Homework: AB46/1-4

Summary: Today we started unit 5. This unit focuses on materials and what things are made of (These books are made of paper, The table is made of wood, etc).

Video: Today we watched a video about Stella, Meera and Lenny visiting a Joke Shop. This was a good visual for discussing different objects and what they are made of (wood, brick, plastic, rubber, fur, wool, stone, sugar, etc.)

Game: Bowling! This was a fun way to practice our unit vocabulary.

Homework: AB38/1-3

Summary: Today we focused on the months of the year, specific dates (birthdays, holidays, etc), and activities we do during different months or holidays. We also focused on disasters and specifically volcanic eruptions (Pompeii and Vesuvius, Krakatoa, the Pacific Ring of Fire, etc) 

Game: Students played Baamboozle. This was a great opportunity to practice this unit’s grammar and vocabulary regarding disasters.

Discussion: We discussed active, dormant, and extinct volcanoes. The students told me about the extinct volcanoes in the Czech Republic, and volcanoes they have visited.

Homework: AB39/1-3

Summary: Today we reviewed past simple verbs and past continuous verbs. We practiced forming sentences using both tenses. For example, “I was walking when I fell.” We also discussed disasters (avalanche, flood, volcanic eruption, tsunami, fog, etc). 

Competition: Students competed against each other in writing the correct past continuous verb forms with pronouns (I/She/He was walking. You/They/We were talking.)

Game: Students played Baamboozle where they had to decide which verb form they needed to complete the sentence (past simple vs past continuous). We also played a game to practice identifying our new disaster vocabulary. 

Song: Students sang a song about disasters.

Homework: AB37/1-2

Summary: Today we reviewed past simple verbs and introduced past continuous verbs (we were walking, I was thinking, etc.). We also began discussing disasters. 

Competition: Students competed against each other in a variety of speed relay races. This was perfect for quickly categorising the different verb forms and practicing spelling them quickly. 

Game: Students played Baamboozle where they had to decide which verb form they needed to complete the sentence (past simple vs past continuous).

Homework: No Homework! 

Summary: Today we reviewed and practiced using Christmas vocabulary (Santa, sleigh, Christmas tree, etc)

Story-telling: Students played Roll A Story to practice their creative writing skills. 

Game: We had a snowball fight! This was a great way to test our Christmas knowledge. 

Video: We all watched The Grinch together.

Homework: AB31/1-3

Summary: We reviewed how to read maps and give directions in English. We also practiced using prepositions of place in relation to other buildings when describing how to find monuments and tourist attractions in a city. We also practiced giving directions for navigating Prague Metro! 

Game: Sticky ball map! This was a great way for students to select random points on a map and then describe how to get from point A to point B. 

Real life practice: Students discussed their favourite places in Prague (Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Skate Park Vlatska, McDonalds in Smíchov Mall, etc) and then they explained why they picked it, how to get there, and what you can do there.

Test: All students will bring home their first test today. Please email me directly with any questions or concerns.

Summary: Today the students learned how to read maps in English and how to give directions. 

Practice: We used a map from PB29 to practice using the new vocabulary and giving each other directions to different locations. 

Real life practice: Students were given a map of Prague, and they practiced giving and understanding directions in English to various locations.  This was great practice for helping tourists and foreigners in our city!

Summary: Today the students reviewed and were tested on present simple verbs, telling time, making predictions and plans for the future (using “going to”), jobs, and adjectives. 

Students who were absent today will be tested next week, so please study pages 26 & 27 in the Pupils Book and Activity Book.

Homework: AB26/1-4 & study 

Test: units 0-2 on November 20th 

Summary: The students reviewed past tense verbs, telling time, making predictions and plans for the future (“going to”), jobs, and adjectives to prepare for their first test scheduled for next week. Please encourage your child to review and study at home to help prepare them. The test will be a review for units 0-2.

Creative Writing: Students worked together to write a short story using the phrase “going to” to make predictions about what will happen next in the story. 

Game: Students played a speed recognition game for jobs, and a speed writing game for telling time. We focused on using phrases like, “quarter to five, half past six, twenty-five to ten, etc.”

We also played a board game to further practice telling time and using the phrase “going to.”
