Homework: due 21.9. Workbook Page 4, Exercises 1, 2 and Page 5, Exercises 1, 2 (Exercise 3 optional). We will cover Page 6 on Monday.

Warm Up: We played „Categories“, where students wrote as many „B“ words as they could in 60 seconds. It was impressive how many unique words students came up with in such a short period of time (even „bamboozle“ made the list).

Super Minds: We continued with page 5 of Super Minds. Did Exercise 1, completing the grid of which character had which subject yesterday. We then used words from Exercise 1 (mostly past tense verbs) to fill in the blank in Exercise 2. We then gathered to watch the video in Exercise 3, a cheetah who lives in a tree and eats chickens (the students were quick to point out that cheetahs don’t live in trees).

Games: We played a high-energy flashcard review game called „Fly Swatters“. In this game, students are separated into 2 teams. One student from each team is given a fly swatter. The teacher calls out a word („bubbles“) and the first kid to swat it gets a point. I was impressed how quickly the kids had picked up the vocab. We also played „2 Truths and a Lie“ – with sentences in the past tense while we were finishing the class poster.

Class Poster: We finished decorating our poster by gluing on our blue whale cutouts, photos and wrote our names. Well done, Blue Whales.

Class Dojo: Students earned points for thinking of a unique „B“ word in Categories.

Homework: due 21.9. Workbook Page 4, Exercises 1 & 2

Warm Up: We talked about what we did this weekend and this summer. First in pairs and then shared as a class.

Super Minds: We started our Super Minds 5 textbook and did page 4. This first unit’s theme is science. We introduced 10 new vocabulary words shown below, learned how to pronounce them, and asked questions to better understand what the words mean.

Unit Vocabulary: goggles, shelf, apron, explosion, bubbles, liquid, instructions, test tube, powder, gloves

Games: We introduced „2 Truths and a Lie“. In this game, you write 3 sentences about yourself, for example: „I am American. I speak French. I have 2 cats“. Two of the sentences are true, one is a lie. Everyone else must guess which sentence they think is the lie. And then you tell them if they are right or not.

Class Dojo: Student earned points for answers questions while going through the textbook.

Reminder : Bring your Super Minds books next class because we will start using them!

Class Poster : We started decorating the class poster. It’s underwater (since we are the Blue Whales) and full of color. There is sand, coral, and even a jellyfish with headphones. We also colored in our own blue whales.

My favorites sheet: We completed a „my favorites“ worksheet to learn more about the students‘ favorite foods, animals, music, and more.

Games: We learned and played “This or That”. To play the game, students form a circle, then one student throws a ball to another and asks a question like „Cat or Dog?“. The receiving student answers and then asks another student a this or that question.

Portfolios: We had more time this class to decorate our portfolios. Go Blue Whales!

Class Rules: Together we made our class rules which will help us have a fun and safe English class this year. We will practice the rules over the next few classes then sign an agreement.

Class Dojo: We continued to use Class Dojo today and student earned point for sharing, working hard on the class poster, and speaking English.

Bonus Video: We finished the lesson by watching a video of a blue whale scooping up a whole bunch of krill.
