Warm Up: We played our first Wordwall game. Students spun the wheel and practiced saying irregular verbs in the past tense. We then made example sentences with the verbs in past tense. Example: Yesterday, I went to football practice.
Super Minds: We read the story on Pages 8 and 9. We learned what an experiment is, what we do with instructions (read, follow), and identified several of our vocab words in the story (powder, liquid, test tube, goggles, explosion). We did part of Activity 5. It was difficult but the Blue Whales got there in the end. At the end the story, the 3 adventurers‘ experiment goes awry and they walk into a mysterious portal. Where will it take them?
Games: We played „Yesterday I…“. In this game students gather in a circle and pass a ball or a microphone, from one student to the next. The first student says something they did yesterday (can be made-up), like „Yesterday, I ate pizza“. The next student says what the previous student said and then adds another sentence. This chaining continues until the last student must repeat what everyone said! It’s a good way to practice the past tense.
We also played a vocab-review game, „Hand Slap“. Student sit in a circle with interlocked hands and take turns gently slapping the hand of the next student while saying the letters of a vocab word one at time. For example: Bubbles – B-U-B-B-L-E-S. This helped the students to better understand tricky spellings like „instructions“ or „liquid“.
Reward: We played a few rounds of Geoguessr (corrected guessing Vietnam and Albania). We then played Werewolf for the first time. We worked out how to play and will be ready to have a smooth game next time. In Werewolf, students sit in a circle and there is one moderator. The moderator chooses roles: Werewolf, Doctor, Detective, Villager. Everyone goes to sleep (closes their eyes) and the moderator wakes up each role to do their job (discover the role of someone else, save someone, etc). The Werewolf wins if they aren’t caught by the end. Otherwise, everyone else wins.
Class Dojo: Students earned points for being quick to be ready with their books, speaking English, raising their hand, and having the longest chain of „D“ words in Word Tennis.
